Heide Fasnacht is an interesting artist whose devotion to art comes from surroundings and effects. Fasnacht has won many awards including the Virginia Commonwealth University Artist in Residence award. Heide has had exhibitions since 1997 till the present, and has presented more than 40 pieces of art! Fasnacht got a Master of Arts degree from New York University and a B.F.A from Rhode Island School of Design.
The black wood piece you have here is dated incorrectly. It was made in the early 1980’s.
I was intrigued with the way Fasnacht expresses time in the art. While reading the chapter about time I came upon a section talking about the explanations of the exploding building. The many ways in which to express time was beyond what I had interpreted from the piece. Time was explained as the stop in time to picture the explosion, the time displayed from an actual explosion which is extremely short, and lastly the viewers time spent looking at the display. I like the way in which we can think about time with these exploding pieces, it is very dynamic.
I really like the first artwork with the exploding airplane because I like how it catches a moment in time of something that is really viusalling appealing and interesting. This is because this action is something that would go by fast so its cool to see it stuck in a moment of time.
I love the suspension pieces of the Jump Zone, Buildings and Roads, and Exploding Airplane. The depth makes me want to walk into it and look at it from different angles. In Jump Zone specifically, the texture of the styrofoam makes me want to feel it as well.
